I tend to gravitate towards spontaneous photos where people’s relationships and personality show through a bear hug or a mischievous smile. I like to focus more on what the portrait means than what it represents. Don’t get me wrong, I believe formal family settings are important in documenting life events. They provide a larger context to the “on-the-fly” shots, that happen without warning and reveal so much more about the environment, the feelings, the deeper connections behind the faces. One can decide where on the spectrum I need to be to deliver the pictures you want to see.
